SISCAL modes of operation
  1. a demonstration mode (further on referred to as SISCAL demonstrator), giving access to the full SISCAL functionality for a limited number of instruments, products and orders,
  2. an operational mode based on a contractual agreement between the SISCAL operators and the customer, giving unlimited access to the SISCAL service.
SISCAL demonstrator terms of use
In order to get access to the SISCAL demonstrator, users shall to register through the SISCAL on-line registration form and accept the following terms of access.
  1. The total number of jobs that can be processed by a user under the demonstration mode is limited to a fixed number (typically 100). Having reached that limit, the user will not be able to initiate new jobs on the SISCAL demonstrator.
  2. Access to the SISCAL demonstrator may be limited or refused at any time without prior notice.
  3. SISCAL demonstrator products are automatically removed after a fixed time period (typically 21 days) from the SISCAL download area. It is the responsibility of the SISCAL user to download SISCAL demonstrator products in time.
  4. SISCAL demonstrator products and services are offered on an as-is basis. The quality and availability of SISCAL demonstrator products can not be assured.
  5. The user is using the SISCAL demonstrator products and services entirely on his/her own responsibility.
  6. Images and data products generated by SISCAL are copyrighted property. The registered user may use these products in his or her publications free-of-charge under the condition that a credit to SISCAL is given. The credit shall state: This product has been provided by the SISCAL service, http://www.siscal.net.
  7. Under no circumstances, SISCAL demonstrator products shall be used, reproduced, or disclosed for commercial or operational purposes.
  8. Users who wish to use the SISCAL technology or SISCAL products on an operational or commercial basis shall contact the SISCAL operators to establish a contractual agreement specifying the conditions of delivery as well as access to the satellite data providers.
SISCAL demonstrator terms of access to Earth observation data
  1. AVHRR: The AVHRR instruments are operated by NOAA (National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, US). No fee or license requirement is raised by NOAA to directly receive HPRT data from the AVHRR instruments (http://noaasis.noaa.gov/NOAASIS/ml/satservices.html). Within SISCAL, AVHRR HPRT data are received, pre-processed and subsequently made available to SISCAL by the Institute of Meteorology of the Free University of Berlin (FUB). AVHRR data used within SISCAL are thus copyrighted by FUB. FUB provides AVHRR data to SISCAL free of charge for demonstration purposes.
  2. MODIS: The MODIS instruments are operated by NASA. The MODIS instruments on board the satellites Aqua and Terra constantly broadcast data free of charge for anyone with the right equipment and software (see http://directreadout.gsfc.nasa.gov/index.cfm). Within SISCAL, MODIS data are obtained directly from NASA, either automatically from the rolling ftp archives or through dedicated orders for specific case studies. MODIS data are free of charge for any use. In the event that MODIS data, or results using MODIS data, are published, the following acknowledgement shall be given: "The data used in this study were acquired as part of the NASA's Earth Science Enterprise. The algorithms were developed by the MODIS Science Teams. The data were processed by the MODIS Adaptive Processing System (MODAPS) and Goddard Distributed Active Archive Center (DAAC), and are archived and distributed by the Goddard DAAC."
  3. SeaWiFS: The use of SeaWiFS data is regulated by the NASA data policy. Scientific users who want to have access to SeaWiFS data products through SISCAL must register with NASA prior to ordering SeaWiFS data products from the SISCAL service. The application form to become an authorised SeaWiFS data user can be accessed under http://seawifs.gsfc.nasa.gov/SEAWIFS/LICENSE/checklist.html. SeaWiFS data or derived products from SISCAL shall not be used, reproduced, or disclosed for commercial or operational purposes.
  4. MERIS: The use of ENVISAT data, namely MERIS and AATSR data, is covered by the announcement of opportunity (AO) 1398 of which the former coordinator of the SISCAL project, Prof. Richard Santer (ULCO / LISE) is the principle investigator. SISCAL data products derived from ENVISAT data shall not be used, reproduced, or disclosed for commercial or operational purposes.
